Woven Paper Textile: "Portrait- Camille Claudel".
For me, Camille Claudel is one of the great tragic female figures from the history of art. Today recognized as the equal to Rodin, in her time she battled for recognition, autonomy, her livelihood and ultimately her sanity. In this pensive image, does she intuit the struggles that lay ahead?
Materials: Appropriated image on paper, metallic and holographic thread. Folio: Book board, Japanese Tojimbo paper, Snakeskin.
Dimensions: 10" x 8"; Folio is 11" x 9" closed, 11" x 18" open
Artwork is matted in a hard bound folio, which can stand open on a mantel or shelf, or rest closed and be held open, like a book, for viewing.
Note: the 'eye' of a digital camera is confused by the light reflected by the silvery threads and tries to 'correct' the effect i am trying to achieve. The holographic threads reflect little pings of colour, along with the shimmer of the silver threads.
