Woven Paper Textiles

A weaver and hand bookbinder for 30 years, my twin practices intersect to create a third: Woven Paper Textile. Inspired by the traditional (and secret!) Japanese art of Saganishiki, personal and/or found images are interwoven with metallic and holographic threads to interrupt the image with geometric pattern. It's always a surprise what is revealed and what is obscured. The shimmer of the silver and gold metallic threads also capture my imagination: how might they convey notions of light, 'spirit matter', the numinous, the sacred?
